How to Choose the Right Drugs for Your Sexual Disorders
Other than lack of interest, arousal disorders and premature ejaculation or even the failure to ejaculate altogether, the most common sexual disorder really is male erectile dysfunction. The cause for this dysfunction is an enzyme called PDE 5, which during arousal is inhibited by the body in certain muscles (especially the penis). When this enzyme is inhibited, the muscles relax (contrary to popular belief that penis engorgement is caused by tense muscles) – and the relaxed muscles allow blood to fill in and since the muscles are not tense, allow the blood to concentrate within the muscle. This is what causes an erection. There are a number of generic drugs that may be used to inhibit PDE5, some with lower dosage requirements (since they last longer in the body or that are more selective about their focus on inhibiting PDE5).
Vardenafil (Levitra – the drug name) for example is much more selective in targeting PDE5, than say Sildenafil (Viagra) or Tadalafil (Cialis). However Tadalafil very specifically targets another enzyme called PDE11, which is normally found in the heart, the pituitary gland in the brain and in the testicles. Also, how long the drug actually takes to desolve and get cleaned out of the blood stream is a basis by which the dosage and drug itself may be identified for specific usage.
Now, Viagra remains in the blood for 4 hours, Levitra remains a little longer at 4-6 hours while Cialis stays on for a good 17.5 hours. What this means that taking Cialis will allow a person to go about normally until aroused (so the person is not limited to getting down to sexual activity within an hour of consumption); but, it also means that taking any other medication has to be limited (especially drugs that contain any form of nitrate).
